The one email address I found had a specific note that there was no way to contact support through that email. My issue was I could not create an account. To get access to support, you need to log in to your account. When trying to set up an account, it would not accept a password. I have had nothing but problems with the software on this POS since day one. Even if the GPS was dog's gift to mankind, the software and support is horrendous. I can whole heartedly second any opinon that the Tomtom Rider 550 is a huge piece of crap. 15C / 59F, and I was first on an A road then on a motorway, not stuck in traffic during a crazy heatwave. When the TomTom rebooted, it was never hot: it was ca. PS The Huawei never had any issues whatsoever connecting to any other kind of bluetooth devices. Bluetooth has been around since 1998, it's meant to be a universal protocol, and yet TomTom can't seem to manufacture a device that works with all phones. TomToms have been around for decades yet they still fail to produce a navigation device that doesn't reboot randomly. It is beyond me how this kind of stuff can still happen in 2022. The problem with vibrations is easily addressed buying a dedicated rugged phone, much cheaper than a TomTom anyway. The only problem with Waze is that it is for point-to-point navigation it cannot load gpx tracks.Īt this point I'm seriously thinking of using Waze for point-to-point navigation and another app (maybe the MyRoute app? Not sure) for when I want to ride along gpx tracks I prepared at home, with either Calimoto or MyRouteApp (both great bits of software). However, all of these become moot points if the bloody thing is so unstable that it becomes unusable! And if it keeps sending you on the wrong road, or telling you to avoid a road you could use because it doesn't understand you're on a motorcycle and not in a car. Yes, I get all the usual points on why a dedicated satnav would allegedly be better than a phone: brighter screen, better with gloves, better under the rain, etc. And it's been like that for years! Anyone not familiar with the area would either get fines or spend a crazy amount of time trying to navigate around that restriction For example, the TomTom keeps trying to send you along Bank Junction in London, which for 12 hours a day is open only to buses and bicycles. the software considers a road either always open or always closed, it cannot take into account that some roads are closed to certain vehicles only at certain times of the day.the software does not distinguish between cars and motorcycles this is a biggie, because some roads, like London Bridge, are closed to cars but not motorcycles for 12 hours a day.road closures and changes are updated way less frequently than with Waze (at least around London).I have had this kind of happen to me multiple times already.Īnd all of this is before we start taking into account the structural flaws of the TomTom maps and software: Then, all of a sudden, the TomTom rebooted on its own and, when it was back up, it was showing my current position but not my route. I was on a motorway and couldn't stop, and the thing was driving me nuts. During one of my latest rides on the way back the headset kept saying "GPS connected" then "GPS disconnected" non-stop for more than 10 minutes. The connection with the phone is better (better doesn't mean acceptable) but the connection with the headset (a Cardo Freecom 4+) is very unstable. I tried it again when I changed my phone to a Samsung Galaxy S21. I complained to TomTom and those said it's a "known software issue" but refused to replace let alone refund it. Sometimes the display would blink alternating connected / disconnected at a furious pace. It would connect one day and not connect the next. I tried to pair it with my Huawei P20 Pro phone, and I could never get it to work properly. Out of curiosity, is the Garmin Zumo XT any better? The issue is really simple: this thingy is so unstable and unreliable that it practically becomes unusable. I wanted to share my experience to warn other people. In fact, when using apps like Calimoto or MyRouteApp to plan routes and then export them to gpx this becomes a moot point, but I didn't know at the time. I chose it over the Garmin because I like that it syncs over wifi and because everyone kept saying how much harder it is to plan routes with Garmin's basecamp. I made the mistake of buying a TomTom Rider 550.
